The 19th National Furniture Fair 2024 has started at Dhaka’s International Convention City Bashundhara with the aim of developing the domestic furniture industry as well as increasing exports outside the country.
The fair was inaugurated on Tuesday. FBCCI Administrator Md. was present as the chief guest. Hafizur Rahman.
Hatil, Akhtar, Omega Furniture, Navana, Regal, Nadia, Brothers Furniture and other famous companies are participating in the fair.
Organized by Bangladesh Furniture Industry Owners Association (BFEA), the fair will continue till October 19. International Convention City Bashundhara, Gulnaksha (Hall-01), Pushpaguchch Hall (Hall-02) Mela 2024 has been organized. Buyers can visit the fair without tickets from 10 am to 9 pm every day. The fair has a total of 185 stalls of 30 furniture manufacturers. It sells furniture as well as home accessories.
In the opening ceremony of the fair, it was informed that currently there is a furniture market of about 500 million dollars in the world. In 2025, the market of furniture sector in the world may be 65 thousand 46 billion dollars. Bangladesh used to import 100% furniture. But currently Bangladesh is exporting furniture abroad to fulfill the needs of the country.
The speakers said that Bangladesh can do better in this sector if it gets the support of the government. They also said that the market of furniture sector in the country is 25 thousand crore rupees. However, if the tax structure is reviewed, loan assistance to entrepreneurs, establishment of separate furniture industrial park, VAT structure is simplified and the skills of entrepreneurs and workers of this sector are increased, Bangladesh can capture a large part of the international furniture market.
In the speech of the chief guest at the opening ceremony, the administrator of FBCCI said. Hafizur Rahman said, furniture sector is a big potential sector of Bangladesh. About 25 lakh people are involved in this sector. We are working to further expand the scope of this industry. Referring to this industrial potential export sector, he said, we are working to resolve VAT-tax and other complications in this sector.
He told the traders to keep an eye on the price of furniture within the purchasing power of the middle class.
Salim H. Rahman, Chairman, Bangladesh Furniture Industry Owners’ Association presided over this opening ceremony, Vice-Chairman and CEO of Export Development Bureau was present as a special guest. Anwar Hossain and Bangladesh Furniture Exporters Association President and FBCCI Director Dr. KM Akhtaruzzaman.
