Scientists have discovered the number of ants on Earth. It is discovered that there are about 20 quadrillion (20 followed by 15 zero – 200 crore) ants.
According to the study, their total weight is equivalent to 12 mega tons of dry carbon. That is equal to one-fifth of the total weight of humans on earth. The study was conducted by scientists from the University of Hong Kong under the leadership of Patrick Schultheis, who is currently conducting research at the University of Würzburg in Germany.
The study was published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The number was calculated by evaluating 489 available studies of ant populations.
