3 people agree to become Police Chief: List of 8 to Centre

Thiruvananthapuram – 3 DGPs on central deputation have given consent to the state government to be considered for the post of state police chief.

CRPF Special Director Nidin Aggarwal, Intelligence Bureau Additional Directors Harinath Mishra and Rawada A. Chandrasekhar have agreed to be included in the list to be sent to the Centre. With this, a list of 8 persons who are eligible to be considered for the post of State Police Chief will be given to the Centre.

DGPs Tomin Thachankari, B. Sandhya and S. Anandakrishnan will not be included in the list as they are retiring soon. Arun Kumar Sinha of the Kerala cadre, who heads the Special Protection Group (SPG), the prime minister’s security outfit, will also retire in May. Along with 3 DGPs on central deputation, 5 senior officers of the state will also be included in the list. Police Headquarters ADGP K. Padmakumar, Crime Branch ADGP Shake Darvesh Sahib, Supplyco CMD Sanjeev Kumar Patjoshi, Intelligence Head ADGP TK Vinod Kumar and BAVCO MD Yogesh Gupta will also be included.

The consent of the Central deputation was obtained at the police headquarters last day. It is under final inspection. They have been asked to clarify some points in the given performance. Once it is received, the list will be handed over to the state government. Officials said that the list will be handed over to the Center this week itself. The list of IPS officers who have completed 30 years of service will be handed over. Must have at least 6 months of service remaining to be considered as State Police Chief.

A 5-member committee comprising the UPSC chairman will forward 3 eligible names out of these 8 to the state government. One of them can be appointed as the police chief by the state government. The Superintendent of Police so appointed may remain there for a minimum period of 2 years or thereafter till retirement. Although Arun Kumar will retire in May, it is indicated that the central government will provide a suitable position. Current DGP Anil Kant will retire in June and Tomin Thachankari in July. Chief of Fire Rescue B. Sandhya and Excise Commissioner S. Anandakrishnan will retire in May.

One of these three is DGP

In the current situation, the center will return the shortlist of the top 3, namely Nidin Aggarwal, K. Padmakumar and Sheikh Darvesh Sahib, from the list of 8 persons to be sent to the center. No charges have been filed against any of them yet. Therefore, one of them will be appointed as the police chief. Nidin Agarwal has service till July 2026, Padmakumar till April 2025 and Sheikh Darvesh Sahib till July 2024. But whoever is appointed as the police chief will get a term of 2 years according to the Supreme Court verdict. TK Vinod Kumar, who will retire in August 2025, will miss the opportunity to become the Chief of Police.
