Krasimir Dunev joined the Council of the World Gymnastics Federation, Nikolina Hristova will lead sports acrobatics
A true triumph for Bulgaria marked the congress of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) in Qatar. All five Bulgarian candidates for positions in the management structures were elected.
The President of the Bulgarian Gymnastics Federation Krasimir Dunev joined the FIG Council. The Atlanta 1996 Olympic silver medalist was selected with the second-highest result among men.
Nikolina Hristova was elected president of the Technical Committee for Sports Acrobatics. She won in a landslide with 109 votes out of 157 possible. Hristova is a rightful member of the FIG Executive Committee. For the first time, Bulgaria has a representative in it.
Three-time absolute world champion Maria Petrova was re-elected as a member of the Artistic Gymnastics Technical Committee. Petrova received 81 out of 157 possible votes, which is the second highest result.
The General Secretary of the Bulgarian Trampoline Jumping Federation Mariela Stoycheva again entered the Technical Committee of this sport with 120 out of 148 votes.
Desislava Bogusheva was elected as a member of the Aerobics Technical Committee with 64 votes out of 123 voters.
The Japanese Morinari Watanabe – a graduate of the National Academy of Sciences, who received his higher education in Sofia – was re-elected as the president of FIG.
The Bulgarian delegation in Doha also included the president of the Bulgarian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation Iliana Raeva with the vice-president Nevyana Vladinova and the president of the Bulgarian Trampoline Jumping Federation Stoyan Dimitrov.
