Nearly 500 migrants in nine boats have reached Britain in just one day across the English Channel, DPA reported, citing data from the British Home Office.

According to the information of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 471 illegal migrants arrived on British shores through the English Channel in the course of yesterday alone. The day before, on Friday, 142 illegal migrants arrived there in two boats, BTA reported.

With this, a total of 27,225 irregular migrants have crossed the Channel since the start of the year, which is around 5 percent more than the same period last year, but 25 percent less than the same period in 2022.

On October 5, four migrants died, including a two-year-old boy, when they tried to cross the English Channel in two large boats. On the same day, a total of 973 migrants arrived in Britain across the English Channel on 17 boats, the highest number in one day this year.

Britain’s Home Office has vowed to crack down on the business model of traffickers who put migrants’ lives at risk crossing the Channel. The Ministry of the Interior has assured that all those responsible will be brought to justice.
