US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried said that Washington will increase the volume of military assistance to Kiev in the event of aggressive steps by Russia towards Ukraine. She came to Moscow last week.

“As President Biden told President Putin, in the event of a further Russian invasion of Ukraine, we will provide Ukrainians with additional defensive supplies beyond what we already provide,” she said at a briefing on her trip.

During her visit to Moscow, Ms Donfried announced Washington’s readiness to assist in the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine and the efforts of the “Normandy format”. According to the American side, the resolution of the Donbas conflict requires compliance with the Minsk agreements.

On December 7, a conversation took place between the presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden, during which the situation around Ukraine was also discussed. Mr. Biden called for de-escalation and a return to diplomacy in the situation around Ukraine. Joe Biden warned the Russian president that in the event of a military escalation in the situation with Ukraine, the United States and its allies will take “serious economic and other” measures.
