The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) establishes the second ban on marine shrimp for 2024, to preserve the resource and favor fishermen, guaranteeing the marine product for the future.

The validity of the ban is from October 1 to 31, so the MAG, through the Center for the Development of Fisheries and Aquaculture (CENDEPESCA), calls for compliance with the provision. Fishermen should refrain from capturing marine shrimp to protect them in their juvenile stage, as the measure helps conserve the species and maintain sustainable fishing.

The shrimp bans are complementary, the May ban protects individuals that are in the season of greatest reproduction and the October ban is so that they can reach reproductive sizes for the next reproduction season.

The prohibition is only for the fishing of this resource, not for consumption, as long as the marine shrimp comes from reserves that businesses or restaurants maintain and have acquired before establishing the management measure.

Regarding marketing, supermarkets, restaurants, hotels, wholesalers, importers and exporters of fishing products must present their product inventory.

In the event of any illegal extraction and trade of sea shrimp, a complaint must be submitted to the CENDEPESCA offices.
