Completion of a joint project in the cotton-textile sector of the company “Azersheker“and Uzbekistan is planned by mid-2026.
As Day.Az reports, the chairman of the board of Azersheker LLC said this in an exclusive interview with Trend. Nasib Islamzadeh.
“The textile cluster will be jointly created by the Azerbaijani company Azersheker and the Uzbek company Global Textile. The project covers many regions, and it is planned to create 2,400 new jobs. In the agricultural sector, it is planned to work with farmers from regions of Azerbaijan specializing in the cotton industry, such as Yevlakh, Agjabedi, Imishli, Fuzuli and other regions, at the next stage it is planned to create factories for primary cotton processing in Ujar and Agjabedi,” Islamzadeh said.
According to him, over the past year the economic efficiency of the project has been assessed, and test work on the cultivation and processing of cotton has been successfully carried out in terms of its quality. Work is planned to begin in the next three months to launch yarn production.
“The total cost of the textile cluster project jointly with Uzbekistan is 104 million US dollars. A significant part of these investments is in the yarn processing and fabric production plant. The cost of investment in the yarn processing and fabric production plant is about 80 million dollars,” Islamzadeh added.
He noted that within the framework of the project it is planned to organize the processing of 40,000 tons of cotton. Half of the cotton supplies will be provided by the internal resources of the Azersheker company, and the remaining part will be provided through other organizations and farms in the country. As a result, production of 11,000 tons of yarn is planned, and eventually the production of clothing. It is planned that the value chain will continue to ready-made garments, which will transform the country into an exporter of textiles rather than just raw materials, and will contribute to the development of the sector on more stable terms. As part of the project, it is planned to cooperate with major European brands and export to nearby regions.
“Azersheker’s investments in the agricultural sector continue, and by the end of this month, a farm on an area of 1,500 hectares, equipped with modern irrigation systems, will begin to operate in Fuzuli, and during 2025 it is planned to bring into circulation an additional 5,400 hectares of land,” concluded Islamzade.
