Azerbaijan could double gas exports to Europe as it prepares to host the next Climate Summit in 2024″>SOCAR calls on Azerbaijani fuel and energy companies to reduce methane emissions“/>
State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) calls on all companies operating in the oil and gas sector of Azerbaijan to join commitments to reduce methane emissions so that the country’s oil and gas sector achieves zero methane emissions by 2050.
About this at the conference”Methane Progress: Advancing Global Methane Reduction“, held as part of the Baku Week of Action to Combat Climate Change, said the head of the department for green projects and environmental solutions of SOCAR Mustafa Gurbanlyreports Day.Az with reference to Trend.
“SOCAR in December 2023 took on specific commitments for decarbonization, and in particular for methane in 2035 it will approach 0.2%, and in 2050 – to Net Zero. We advocate that all operating companies in the oil and gas sector sector of Azerbaijan followed all international obligations on decarbonization,” Gurbanli noted.
According to him, SOCAR and bp actively and jointly participate in the implementation of the Methane Guiding Principles (MGP), and such interaction produces successful results.
Together, these companies are also working on the introduction of artificial intelligence for the process of monitoring methane emissions and emission calculations.
This program (working title “Methane.AI”) will be presented during COP29.
Note that about 30% of radiation problems in the ozone layer of the atmosphere are caused by methane emissions.
At COP29, a separate panel will be dedicated to the topic of methane, and a number of Declarations are expected to be signed.
