The monuments of the cities of Shusha and Aghdam are included in the ISESCO preliminary list of heritage of the Islamic world.
As Day.Az reports, this is stated in the message of the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan, Day.Az reports.
It was noted that on October 8-9, the 12th session of the ISESCO Islamic World Heritage Committee is being held in the city of Shusha, declared the “Cultural Capital of the Islamic World” in 2024. At the meeting, various nominations submitted to the List of Heritage of the Islamic World were considered.
The proposal of the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan to include two nominations in the preliminary list of the heritage of the Islamic world was discussed: “Shushi Historical and Architectural Reserve” and “Agdam Imaret Complex and Juma Mosque”. First, an expert was heard Rizvana Bayramovarepresenting our country in the ISESCO Islamic World Heritage Committee. Then head of the department of cooperation with international organizations of the Ministry of Culture Araz Bagirli made a presentation on the topic “Pearls of Agdam”. Participants got acquainted with photographic materials reflecting the condition of such iconic monuments as the Imaret complex, Juma Mosque, Agdam State Drama Theater, Bread Museum, and Tea House.
At the meeting, it was emphasized that Azerbaijan’s experience in restoring cultural heritage is a unique model for restoring cultural heritage in post-conflict areas around the world.
After discussions by members of the committee, it was decided to include two nominations of Azerbaijan in the preliminary list of the heritage of the Islamic world – “Shushi Historical and Architectural Reserve” and “Agdam Imaret Complex and Juma Mosque”.
It should be noted that at an extraordinary meeting of the Committee on the Heritage of the Islamic World (2019), held in Rabat, Icherisheher (together with the Maiden Tower and the Palace complex of the Shirvanshahs), the historical center of Sheki (together with the Khan’s Palace) and the rock paintings of Gobustan were included in the List of Islamic Heritage world ISESCO.
