The Mobility Secretariat (SEMOVI) has announced the next Night Ride “Move by Bike” in celebration of the Day of the Deadan event aimed at promoting sustainable mobility and preserving Mexican traditions.
This year, the event will be Saturday October 26with a 20-kilometer route that will cross various emblematic points of the capital, from the Petroleum Fountain to the Historic Center. The activity will be open to pedestrians, cyclists and skaters between 7:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.
Cultural route through the city
The tour will allow attendees to circulate through iconic sites such as the Monument to the Revolution, the Independence Column, the Torre del Caballito and the Glorieta de “La Diana Cazadora”.
To improve the experience, a bikeschool in the Glorieta de la Diana, where girls, boys and adults will be able to learn or improve their skills in using a bicycle. In this space, free loan of bicycles and helmets will also be offered.
The Youth Institute (INJUVE) will also participate in this activity, offering loan bicycles at its Glorieta del Ahuehuete module.
To set the scene for the walk, four musical groups will perform that will play genres such as cumbia, son jarocho, rock and mariachi, inviting attendees to enjoy a festive evening.
Complementary activities and recreation
The Embassy of the Netherlands will have a special stand, where participants can live the experience of virtually walking the streets of Amsterdam using a virtual reality simulator.
For his part, the Historic Center Trust will organize a tour of the Tabacalera neighborhood, from the National Museum of San Carlos to the Monument to the Revolution, accompanied by guided tours of sites of historical relevance.
For music lovers, a DJ atmosphere and soundstage will be offered in Alameda Central and Paseo de la Reforma, creating entertainment spaces for all tastes.
The event will also feature a costume contest, in which the best outfits alluding to the Day of the Dead will be awarded. Registration and awards will take place at the Monument to the Revolution.
Additional services for attendees
The Integrated Mobility Network will join the event by facilitating access with bicycles on the Metro, Metrobús and Trolleybus starting at 5:00 p.m., promoting assistance from peripheral areas. In turn, the ECOBICI system will extend the time of use of its bicycles to 60 minutes during the activity, so that its users can enjoy the route without restrictions.
SEMOVI invites participants to come dressed as catrinas, catrines or traditional characters, decorating their bicycles to make this night a tribute to Mexican culture and traditions.
With activities such as the “Muévete en Bici” Night Ride, the Government of Mexico City strengthens the sense of belonging, encourages the use of sustainable transportation and promotes the physical and mental health of its inhabitants.
