Perhaps the most emotional power struggle currently taking place in Germany is between two very different women: Sahra Wagenknecht and Katja Wolf. Wagenknecht is one of Germany’s most famous politicians, queen of talk shows, author and, since the beginning of the year, head of the party that bears her name. The ideologue with close ties to Russia is a gifted populist and astute tactician. The 55-year-old Wagenknecht has worked in the opposition for more than 30 years and has no previous government experience. Personally she is considered aloof, a diva, and many of her opponents attest to her destructive character.
