Kamrul Hasan Darpan has been elected as the new president of the traditional organization Bangladesh Film Journalists Association (Bachsas) for the 2024-26 term. Rahat Saiful became the general secretary.
The bi-annual general meeting of Bacchus was held at the National Press Club from Friday (November 1) in the morning and polling took place in a festive atmosphere from 2pm to 6pm. Kamrul Hasan Darpan and Rahat Saiful Parishad won the election with huge votes.
In an immediate response, the new president of Bacsas, Kamrul Hasan Darpan, said that the turnout was more than expected. A cordial and festive atmosphere was created by the lively presence of voters in the National Press Club premises. I am expressing the hope that I can properly fulfill the responsibility assigned by the voters.
General Secretary Rahat Saiful said, the spontaneous presence of voters in a festive environment has made us more responsible. We are excited about this reunion of the Bacchus family. I hope that this committee will play an effective role in building a prosperous Bacchus with the cooperation of all.
Others elected to various posts are: Vice Presidents Liton Rahman and Salam Mahmud, Vice General Secretary Abu Sufian Ratan, Finance Secretary Irani Biswas, Organizational Secretary Mostafa Motihar, International and Research Affairs Secretary Abu Huraira Murad, Social Welfare and Women Affairs Secretary Israt Jahan Swarna, Cultural And sports editor Anisul Haque Rashed, publicity and publication editor Aminur Islam Liton and office editor Ruhul Amin. fried
Salim Kamal, Ruhul Sakhawat, Shakeel Hossain, Saju Ahmed, Shafiullah Sumon, Hafiz Rahman, Panth Afzal, Mohib Al Hasan and Niaz Morshed Shuvo were elected executive members.
Alimuzzaman was the chief election commissioner in this year’s election of Bacchus. The election commissioners were Aminul Islam Raju, Erfanul Haque Nahid, Hafizur Rahman Suruj and Abul Hossain Majumdar.

Kamrul Hasan Darpan: Thank you! I feel both honored and excited. It’s a significant responsibility, and I’m grateful for the trust the voters have placed in me. The turnout at the election was beyond our expectations, which made the victory even more special for us.
Time.news Editor: That was quite a festive atmosphere at the National Press Club during the polling. Can you share some of your observations from that day?
Kamrul Hasan Darpan: Absolutely! It felt like a reunion of the Bachsas family. The energy in the room was palpable, with a lively and cordial atmosphere. It was heartwarming to see so many familiar faces and new members come together with a shared passion for film journalism. It truly reinforced the importance of community in our industry.
Time.news Editor: With Rahat Saiful as your general secretary, what do you envision for the next two years for Bachsas?
Kamrul Hasan Darpan: We are thrilled to have Rahat on the team. Our vision is to create a more inclusive and prosperous environment for all members. We aim to enhance collaboration within the film journalism community, strengthen our relationships with filmmakers, and advocate for the recognition of our profession. In essence, we want to build a Bachsas that genuinely reflects the interests and aspirations of our members.
Time.news Editor: In your immediate response after the election, you mentioned your hope to fulfill the responsibilities assigned to you by the voters. What specific priorities do you have in mind?
Kamrul Hasan Darpan: My first priority is to foster better communication among our members. I believe we must listen to their concerns and ideas as we shape our initiatives. Additionally, we will focus on organizing training programs to enhance our skills in an ever-evolving media landscape. Advocacy for the rights of film journalists will also be high on our agenda, ensuring that we have a voice and representation in the broader industry discussions.
Time.news Editor: It sounds like an exciting journey ahead. You have a dynamic team with you—can you tell us about the roles of your vice presidents and other committee members?
Kamrul Hasan Darpan: Yes, I’m proud to work with a talented team. Liton Rahman and Salam Mahmud, our vice presidents, will help lead our efforts in engaging with the filmmaking community while providing support to our members. Abu Sufian Ratan, our Vice General Secretary, will streamline our internal processes to make everything more efficient. Irani Biswas, as the Finance Secretary, will ensure our financial health, which is crucial for implementing our plans. Mostafa Motihar, our Organizational Secretary, will focus on expanding our outreach and networks. Together, we aim to create a collaborative atmosphere that encourages growth and innovation.
Time.news Editor: It certainly seems like you have a solid plan and a great team in place. What do you think will be the biggest challenge facing Bachsas in the coming years?
Kamrul Hasan Darpan: One of the biggest challenges is adapting to the rapid changes in the media landscape. As digital platforms evolve, we need to ensure that our members are equipped with the right skills and knowledge. Balancing traditional journalism values while embracing new technologies will be critical. Additionally, bringing together diverse voices within our community and ensuring everyone feels represented will be an ongoing challenge.
