British fighter Conor McGregor was ordered this Friday to pay 250,000 euros in a civil action trial related to the rape of a woman, which took place in Dublin in 2018.
A jury of eight women and four men returned the verdict in the case of former mixed martial arts (MMA) star Conor McGregor after six hours and 10 minutes of deliberation.
During the trial, plaintiff Nikita Hand alleged that McGregor sexually assaulted her on December 9, 2018, and that another man, James Lawrence, did the same.
The 36-year-old fighter denied the allegations and said the ”sexual relationship was consensual”. He also confirmed that he had not harmed Nikita Hand.
The victim’s lawyer told the jury that when Nikita Hand was taken to a sexual assault treatment unit the day after the alleged assault, a doctor was so concerned he ordered photographs of her injuries.
The woman told the court that she and a friend approached Conor McGregor after a Christmas party. The fighter then took her to a party in a Dublin hotel, where drugs and alcohol were consumed.
Nikita Hand reported that McGregor took her to a penthouse suite and sexually assaulted her. The woman’s lawyer, John Gordon, said his client was taking anti-depressants and, at the time of the alleged attack, was “high on drugs.”
