Iranian artist Mohammad Ibrahim Jannati revealed his participation in the play “Macbeth” within the Baghdad International Theater Festival.
Jannati told the (INA) that he ”participates in the fifth session of the Baghdad International Theater Festival, with a performance prepared from the play “Macbeth” written by the English poet William Shakespeare.”
He added, “This is the first time I have come to Iraq to participate in the Baghdad International Theater Festival,” stressing: “We were surprised by the opening show, which was more than amazing, and we were amazed by the use of visual technology that we saw, and we were pleased with the quality of employing the story with Iraqi characters, as they performed their roles well and excelled.” “And this is our pledge to Iraq,the country of creativity.”

A: Thank you, Fatima! it’s an honor to be here. This is my first time in Iraq, and participating in the fifth session of the Baghdad International Theater Festival has been a remarkable experience. Our performance of “Macbeth,” written by the legendary William Shakespeare, was received very well. The opening show was absolutely stunning,showcasing not just the play but also a fantastic blend of music,visuals,and local talent.
Q: You mentioned the use of visual technology in the performance. How did that impact the overall production of “Macbeth”?
A: the incorporation of visual technology was a game-changer. It heightened the storytelling elements, making the narrative more immersive. For a classic like ”Macbeth,” which deals with themes of ambition, power, and betrayal, the visuals complemented the actors’ performances superbly.Seeing it brought to life with such creativity was inspiring, and it engaged the audience on a deeper level.
Q: You’ve highlighted the talent of the Iraqi performers. What impressed you the most about their performances?
A: The iraqi actors brought an incredible authenticity to their roles. They infused the characters with rich cultural nuances that resonated with the audience. It was evident that they had a deep understanding of the text and its implications, which made their performances even more powerful. I believe this local interpretation added a unique flavor to a universally recognized play.
Q: Given your positive experiences, what do you think the implications are for the future of theater, especially within Iraq and the broader region?
A: I think this festival is vital for the cultural exchange in the region. Events like the Baghdad International Theater Festival help to foster creativity and showcase local talents on an international stage. They can serve as a catalyst for more collaborations between artists from various backgrounds, encouraging cultural dialog and understanding through the arts. Plus, the more we highlight works like “Macbeth” through local lenses, the richer the conversations become.
Q: For aspiring actors and theater creators in Iraq and beyond, what advice do you have based on your experiences?
A: My advice would be to embrace creativity without boundaries.Experiment with different forms of storytelling, integrate technology into performances, and engage with your cultural identity. There’s a wealth of stories waiting to be told, and a unique perspective can make even classic works resonate in new ways. Networking with othre artists and participating in festivals will also enrich your experience and hone your craft.creativity knows no borders, and theater has a universal language.
