Chappell Roan: “No Second Album Yet,” Could Take 5 Years

Chappell Roan‘s much-anticipated second album “doesn’t exist yet” and could be up to five years away, the pop sensation revealed in a recent interview.

The artist, who previously graced a cover feature, shared that the follow-up to her critically acclaimed 2023 debut, ‘The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess,’ is far from complete.”The second project doesn’t exist yet,” Roan stated.”There is no album. There is no collection of songs.”

She likened the creative timeline to her first album, explaining, “It took me five years to wriet the first one, and it’s probably going to take at least five to write the next. I’m not that type of writer that can pump it out.” Roan emphasized that forcing her creative process doesn’t yield good music, pushing back against fan sentiments about studio time. “Even if I was in the studio 12 hours a day, every single day, that does not mean that you would get an album any faster,” she added.

Roan’s debut LP propelled her to festival stages with hits like ‘Pink Pony Club’ and ‘HOT TO GO!,’ eventually topping the charts in the UK almost a year after its release. In 2024,she followed up with the success of ‘Good Luck,Babe!’ and the country-tinged ‘The Giver.’ Her latest single, the highly anticipated ‘The Subway,’ was released just last week.

Regarding her creative process for the new album, Roan firmly stated that social media will not be a factor. “socials harm the fuck out of me and my art,” she declared. “I’m not doing that to myself anymore.” She elaborated, “I’ve never written an album where I don’t have Instagram or anything. The album process is purely, only mine. No one on TikTok gets to see it.”

Beyond her debut’s chart success and festival billing, Roan’s recent singles have also resonated strongly. ‘Good Luck, babe!’ was celebrated as Song of the Year by one publication and garnered multiple Grammy nominations, including Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance. Roan also took home the grammy for Best new Artist.

This sentiment about the album’s distant release was echoed in March, when Roan said she was “so beyond far away from” her second album and “could not even tell you” when it might be ready.

Following the festival appearances, Roan is scheduled for two shows as part of the Summer Sessions concert series at the Royal Highla
