Major Traffic Disruptions Reported Across Hungarian Motorways

A series of incidents across Hungary’s motorway network are causing significant delays for travelers. Reports indicate collisions and vehicle malfunctions are impacting traffic flow on the M1, M3, and M44 highways, with congestion stretching for kilometers.

Traffic authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution and expect extended travel times. The disruptions, occurring on Thursday, are impacting routes to key destinations including Hegyeshalom and the capital city.

M1 Motorway Congestion Near Hegyeshalom

A collision involving three passenger vehicles on the M1 motorway near Herceghalom is responsible for intermittent congestion spanning 10 kilometers, according to Útinform, Hungary’s road information service. The incident occurred on the stretch of highway leading towards Hegyeshalom.

Technical rescue operations concluded at kilometer 26, where two lanes have since reopened in both directions. However, significant congestion persists. The situation was exacerbated as drivers attempted to divert from the M1 onto Route 1, which subsequently became completely blocked until Biatorbágy.

M3 Motorway Incident Disrupts Travel to Capital

Further complicating the situation, a separate collision involving three cars occurred on the M3 motorway en route to the capital, specifically at the Mohos rest stop. At kilometer 245, both lanes were initially closed, causing substantial delays. Traffic is now reported to be moving slowly in the single open lane.

M44 Highway Exit Closed Following Vehicle Collision

On the M44 highway, a single-vehicle incident at kilometer 92, near the Kardos interchange, is also causing disruption. A passenger car collided with the guardrail, resulting in the closure of the exit leading towards Kecskemét while rescue operations were underway.

These widespread incidents highlight the potential for significant travel delays on Hungary’s motorway network. Motorists are advised to stay informed of the latest traffic updates and allow for extra travel time.
