Archbishop Grünwidl to Lead Inaugural Services Across Lower Austria
The new Archbishop of Vienna, Josef Grünwidl, will preside over two significant inaugural services next weekend, extending the celebrations following his episcopal ordination on January 24th at St. Stephen’s Cathedral. These additional services aim to accommodate believers who were unable to attend the initial ceremony.
On Friday, February 13, 2026, a service will be held at 5 p.m. in the cathedral of Wiener Neustadt, representing the Southern Vicariate, encompassing the Industrial Quarter to Bucklige Welt region. The following day, Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 2:30 p.m., Archbishop Grünwidl will celebrate mass in his home community of Wullersdorf in Lower Austria, representing the Weinviertel (North Vicariate).
The Archdiocese of Vienna deliberately chose locations within its Lower Austrian territorial vicariates to broaden access to these important events. According to an announcement released on Wednesday, February 10, 2026, organizers anticipate over a thousand attendees across both services.
