Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, a premium, book-style foldable featuring a 5,000mAh battery, 45W wired charging, and a refined titanium display structure. Available for preorder starting at $2,099, the device aims to resolve long-standing user complaints regarding battery life, charging speeds, and the visible display crease.
Refining the Foldable Form Factor
Samsung’s latest entry into the foldable market, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, marks a significant departure from the hardware limitations of its predecessor, the Z Fold 7. While the new model retains a familiar silhouette, design adjustments have been made to address ergonomics and durability. Most notably, the device features a new androidauthority.com with a 20% wider opening gap, accompanied by a subtle lip along the edge designed to make the phone easier to unfold.
The display itself has undergone a structural overhaul. Samsung implemented a Flex Titanium display technology, which utilizes a titanium film bonded to a titanium support plate beneath the OLED panel. According to the company, this setup provides 20 times the mechanical stiffness of previous polymer films, resulting in a display surface where the traditional crease is described as practically nonexistent. Early testing suggests that while the crease can be felt if a user applies significant pressure, it remains largely unnoticeable during daily operation.

Hardware Upgrades and Battery Performance
A primary criticism of the previous generation was its reliance on a 4,400mAh battery and 25W charging, specifications that had remained stagnant for years. The Z Fold 8 Ultra addresses this by introducing a 5,000mAh cell, enabled by a shift to silicon carbon battery chemistry. This change allows for 45W wired charging and 20W wireless charging, a notable increase from the Z Fold 7’s capabilities.
According to ZDNET, the device utilizes a dual-path charging architecture similar to the S26 Ultra, which facilitates more efficient power delivery. Internally, the phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset. Storage options start at 256GB and scale up to 1TB, with RAM configurations of 12GB or 16GB depending on the market.

Camera Systems and Professional Features
The Z Fold 8 Ultra aligns its camera hardware more closely with the S26 Ultra lineup. While the 200MP main sensor and 10MP telephoto lens remain unchanged from last year, the ultrawide camera has been upgraded to a 50MP sensor. This enhancement enables dual 8K video recording across the main and ultrawide lenses.
Software support for creators has also been expanded. The device now supports the APV pro video codec and includes Cine LUT presets
for direct color grading within the gallery app. Additionally, a new Fan Cam
feature allows users to record footage and automatically reframe it into various aspect ratios, a tool specifically targeted at content creators who need to distribute media across multiple social platforms.
AI Integration and Software Optimization
Samsung has optimized several AI features specifically for the larger canvas of the Z Fold 8 Ultra. The Now Nudge
notification system now manifests as an ambient floating bubble, suggesting actions based on screen context—such as opening a calendar in split-screen mode when a text message references scheduling. Google’s Gemini has also been updated to support Automated Tasks
in a pop-up window, allowing users to monitor background processes without interrupting their primary workflow.
