Three occupants—two women aged 18 and 30, along with a 36-year-old man—were pronounced dead at the scene. A baby girl who was also travelling in the car was rushed to the hospital, where medical staff sadly pronounced her dead a short time later.
Arrest and Ongoing Investigation on the A38
The driver of the vehicle, a 33-year-old man, sustained serious injuries in the crash. He remains hospitalized under police guard and has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Investigators confirmed that all five occupants of the red Hyundai, including those who lost their lives and the driver receiving treatment, are from Leeds in West Yorkshire. The devastating incident forced authorities to close a significant portion of the A38 for several hours overnight while emergency crews and collision investigators worked at the scene.
