Kremlin not considering preserving QR codes after pandemic

The issue of preserving QR codes after the pandemic is not being considered, because it is not known how long it will last, the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

“Look, no, no, it is being considered, because so far no one can predict when the pandemic will end,” Peskov answered when asked whether the Kremlin is considering the likelihood of keeping QR codes after the pandemic (quoted by RIA Novosti).

Earlier, the plenipotentiary representative of the President of Russia in the Ural Federal District, Vladimir Yakushev, said that the system of visiting public places using QR codes has been introduced for a long time. Health Minister Mikhail Murashko previously announced the high effectiveness of such a measure.

Due to the increase in the incidence of coronavirus, non-working days were introduced from October 30 to November 7, while maintaining the salaries of workers. Regional authorities could start non-working days earlier and extend them, based on the situation with the coronavirus. At least five regions did this. These are the Novgorod, Kursk, Smolensk, Tomsk and Chelyabinsk regions. The authorities of many regions have introduced visits to public places using QR codes.
