Mumbai: A 16-year-old Swedish woman has arrived in Mumbai from India to meet her Instagram friend. According to PTI, the girl was found and sent back with her family after Mumbai police intervened in a timely manner. The girl came to Mumbai to meet a 19-year-old man she met on Instagram.

According to police, the girl had been acquainted with a Mumbai native for some time. On November 27, the girl’s father approached the police in Sweden with a complaint stating that he was missing. The police then registered a case on the complaint. According to the report, the girl’s family has Indian connections.

Mumbai police have received a yellow notice from Interpol that the girl is missing from Sweden. With this, the police started an investigation. The Crime Branch Sixth Unit was in charge of the investigation. The police team searched for the child in the city and informed the family in Sweden. The boy’s family then moved to India from Sweden.

Based on the information that the girl had arrived in India, the proposal went all over the country. Police then traced the boy’s friend based on his Instagram login. Police say he is a college student. He had informed the police that the girl was staying at the Cheeta camp in East Mumbai.

Police rushed to the spot, took the girl into custody and shifted her to a children’s home in Dongri, south Mumbai. Mumbai Police later passed the information to the Swedish Embassy and Interpol. On Friday, the father and others arrived in Mumbai from Sweden to pick up the child. Police said the child was handed over to the family after the proceedings and the family returned to Sweden with the child. The police have not registered a case in connection with the incident, the news agency quoted the Nilotpal DCP as saying.
