We will tour important places in South Korea and Japan with the help of writer and long-time diplomat Yuliana Antonova-Murata. She will show us a singing way to a mountain. When a car drives over the asphalt, the tires play an old Japanese song because of the topography of the road. This was told to “24 Chasa” by the dean of the Faculty of Geology and Geography of Sofia University, Prof. Kliment Naydenov, who presented the upcoming initiatives of Explorers Club Bulgaria in the central lobby of the rector’s office. And they are dedicated to global progress in science, and in the new academic year they are inspired by research tourism.

In Japan, the Bulgarian scientists will also meet the people dressed in bear skins, who are cut off from civilization and live in the mountains, as their ancestors did 700 years ago. We’ll see

how they survive in high-tech Japan, added Prof. Naydenov, who is curious to try the poisonous fugu fish. It can only be prepared by three masters in Tokyo. If your tongue tingles after the 15th second, however, nothing is known… This is the explorers spirit that we want to evoke, the dean of GGF is categorical.

The non-governmental organization Explorers Club Bulgaria was established at the beginning of the year, but only for this short period, together with leading names such as archaeologist Professor Nikolay Ovcharov, it already has several extremely interesting and fruitful research missions behind it, such as the one in Algeria – the rock paintings in Tassili N’ ager, Bolivia, Angola and Peru.

We are all united by a passion for travel and discovery, and our new initiative is focused on exploratory tourism. This initiative aims to present to the general public the possibilities for

adventure tourism combined with a scientific research approach

and scientific discoveries, said the dean of the faculty, which houses the largest department of tourism in Bulgaria.

In the new academic year, they chose to start with a trip to South Korea and Japan. Traditionally, “Days of Japanese culture in Bulgaria” are celebrated in various cities in the country in autumn. However, this year is more special because in 2024 we are celebrating three anniversaries at the same time. It is 115 years since the first official contacts between the two countries, 85 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations and 65 years since their restoration. It is for this reason that the Bulgarian writer Yuliana Antonova-Murata was chosen as the face of the expedition.

During the expedition, Juliana will introduce the participants to the ancient and modern culture of the two countries Japan and South Korea,

iconic places will be visited such as imperial palaces, Buddhist temples,

but also high-tech centers.

The attitude of the Japanese towards the Bulgarians is incredible. They think we are a very friendly people, as Georgi Milkov says – they adore us, said Yuliana Antonova-Murata, who presented her new book “Hai, Hai, Japan”. The office of the Minister of Tourism Evtim Miloshev said that a few days ago in the land of the rising sun he signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of tourism. The event was honored by the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Rositsa Kirova.
