Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, said climate finance, adaptation and mitigation strategies must be equitable and prioritize the most vulnerable populations. The pledge of $100 billion should be increased to deal with the international financial crisis. Financial aid from developed countries will solve some of the financial problems but will not achieve real climate justice.
He said these things at a seminar titled ‘Road to Baku: Climate Change Position of CSOs in Cop-29 Bangladesh‘ held at the Directorate of Environment in Dhaka on Sunday (October 20).
Syeda Rizwana Hasan said that Bangladesh will take a firm stand on limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. He emphasized on adaptation measures and urged youth to be involved in the process.
In addition, he noted the need to articulate international challenges and talk about ambitious mitigation initiatives. Ahead of the COP-29 conference, he also highlighted the importance of active participation of civil society in Bangladesh.
At the end of the program, strong advocacy was called for at the COP-29 conference, so that the voices of vulnerable countries like Bangladesh are heard in the global climate talks. The delegates present hoped that Bangladesh would set an example in tackling climate change and building resilience.
