Kottayam ∙ ‘I am alive today because he intervened like an angel at that time’ – said Arunkumar with a full heart. This is Arun’s second birth. He was rescued by TTE S. Vinodkumar through timely intervention when he felt chest pain during the train journey. The incident took place on the last 10th of Kannur-Thiruvanthapuram’s centenary.

Arunkumar (42), an officer in a private medical equipment company, Changanassery Madapalli Nediyadath (Arunnivas) was on his way to Thiruvananthapuram from Shornur. He lives in Thiruvananthapuram with his family. As the train neared Kottayam, Arun felt chest pain. TTE immediately told Vinod about this.

He sought the services of the doctor on the train. He contacted Kottayam station and asked for ambulance facility and doctor’s services. Vinod got down at Kottayam station but due to lack of facilities he jumped back on the train.

Later contacted at Changanassery. Arun was taken to a private medical college in Thiruvalla in an ambulance that was parked there. Emergency surgery was performed. The doctors said that his life was saved because he was delivered at that time.

Vinod’s response is that all this is part of his job. Vinod hails from Thiruvallam, Thiruvananthapuram and has been with the Railways for 22 years.
