Forecasters have warned Europeans that a “severe winter storm” is on the way this coming weekend. It will bring heavy rain to southern countries, and heavy snowfall to central and northern Europe. Let’s see if this snowstorm will reach Belarus and what kind of weather Belhydromet predicts for the weekend.
According to the specialized European weather portal for Severe Weather, starting this Friday, a real snow storm will break out across most of the European continent, which will not stop until the beginning of next week. Experts have called for preparations to be made for “winter conditions“, including traffic jams from heavy snowfall, as the large blocking anti-cyclone currently developing over the Atlantic will shift northerly winds and “blow six colder air masses into western and central Europe.”
According to the forecast of the author of the Telegram channel @nadvorie, this “cold invasion” will gradually move south. However, according to weather maps published by European experts, neither severe frost nor heavy snow will reach our country in the next three days.
The fact that we will not have a massive “snow invasion” this weekend is confirmed by Belhydromet’s operational forecast. Based on their data, the cold jump that started this week will not increase in the next three days, and even vice versa: if on Friday, December 6, weather forecasters predict a minimum night temperature of 0..-6 ° C (in during the day from -4 to +2°C ), then on the weekend it will be slightly higher:
on Saturday, December 7, -5..+1°С (during the day -2..+4°С),
Sunday, December 8, -3..+3°С (during the day -1..+5°С).
During Friday, Belhydromet also issued a warning regarding a potentially hazardous weather phenomenon (yellow level). This time we are talking about icy conditions, which, according to the forecast, will continue on certain sections of roads across the country tomorrow.
In terms of precipitation, light wet snow is expected in parts of the country on Friday. Short-term precipitation in the form of sleet or snow with rain is expected in most parts of the Republic throughout the weekend. Forecasters also warned of fog and gusty winds.
What should residents in Europe do to prepare for the upcoming winter storm?
Interview with Weather Expert Dr.Elena Kuznetsova on the Upcoming Winter Storm in Europe
Time.news Editor: Welcome, Dr. Kuznetsova. Thank you for joining us today.Let’s dive right into it.Forecasters are warning of a severe winter storm that’s set to impact Europe this weekend. Can you elaborate on what we can expect?
Dr.Elena Kuznetsova: Thank you for having me. Yes, indeed, a important winter storm is predicted across most of Europe starting this Friday. the storm will bring heavy rain to southern european countries, while central and northern Europe are bracing for heavy snowfall that could last into next week.
time.news Editor: That sounds intense. Some reports mention that this storm will be driven by an anti-cyclone over the Atlantic. Can you explain how that influences the weather across Europe?
Dr. Elena Kuznetsova: Certainly! The developing anti-cyclone pushes northerly winds into western and central Europe, which in turn brings a cold air mass. This “cold invasion” is responsible for the plummeting temperatures and the heavy snowfall expected across many regions. It’s essential for residents to prepare for significant winter conditions, especially concerning traffic and travel disruptions.
Time.news Editor: Speaking of disruptions, what specific preparation should individuals make to navigate these conditions effectively?
Dr. Elena Kuznetsova: Well, I recommend that individuals check their local forecasts regularly, stay informed about road conditions, and prepare their vehicles with winter gear—like snow tires and emergency kits. It’s also wise to minimize travel if possible, especially during peak storm hours.being prepared for traffic jams due to heavy snowfall is crucial.
Time.news Editor: There’s been discussion about whether this storm will affect Belarus as well. What dose Belhydromet predict for that region?
Dr. Elena Kuznetsova: According to Belhydromet, Belarus will not experience the brunt of this winter storm. Their forecasts indicate that while there will be colder temperatures this weekend, severe frost and heavy snow will not reach the country.Instead, we expect a range of temperatures from -5 to +4°C during the weekend, along with light wet snow and icy conditions in some areas.
Time.news Editor: That’s a relief for Belarus.Though, you mentioned the potential for icy conditions. Could you provide more details on that?
Dr.Elena Kuznetsova: Absolutely. Belhydromet has issued a yellow-level warning for perhaps hazardous weather due to icy conditions on several road sections. Drivers should be cautious and prepared for potentially slippery surfaces. In addition to ice, fog and gusty winds are also anticipated, which could further complicate travel.
Time.news Editor: It sounds like drivers need to exercise additional caution. As for precipitation, can you tell us what types of weather patterns we should anticipate across Europe over the weekend?
Dr. Elena Kuznetsova: Yes, precipitation will vary by region. In Belarus, we expect light sleet or snow mixed with rain throughout the weekend. In contrast, other parts of Europe may face heavier snowfall, particularly in central and northern areas, which can lead to significant accumulations. Staying updated with local weather reports is key.
Time.news Editor: Dr. Kuznetsova, thank you for these insights. Given the unpredictability of weather patterns, what final advice would you give to our readers as they prepare for the weekend?
Dr. Elena Kuznetsova: My primary advice would be to stay informed through reputable weather channels and heed safety recommendations. Preparation is key in managing winter weather safely—whether that means preparing yoru home for colder temperatures or setting out in a well-equipped vehicle.
Time.news Editor: Thank you,Dr. Kuznetsova, for your valuable insights on this severe winter storm. We appreciate your time and expertise.
Dr. Elena Kuznetsova: Thank you for having me. Stay safe and warm this weekend!
