This disease affects 1 in 10 people worldwide, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), and Guatemala is one of the countries with the highest prevalence. More than 600 patients are treated monthly at Fundación de AMOR, making it one of the main organizations in the country that provides free treatments to those who need it most.
The fundraising platform yomeuno.com It will be crucial in this initiative, allowing Guatemalans to make donations quickly and safely through their debit and credit cards. These donations will directly contribute to the treatments of kidney patients who are facing this harsh reality where the cost of treatments and the lack of access to adequate medical services are a major challenge for many Guatemalan families.
“At BAC, we are committed to changing lives in our communities. Through the yomeuno.com platform, we try to facilitate everyone’s participation in supporting this important cause. We believe that together we can make a difference and offer a better quality of life to those who need it most,” said José Carlos Gómez, Deputy Sustainability Manager at BAC Guatemala.
With this initiative, BAC and the AMOR Foundation have set out to reach a fundraising goal of Q1 million, funds that will be used entirely to cover vital treatments for kidney patients. All donations made through the yomeuno.com platform will go towards hemodialysis sessions, surgeries and transplants, giving those facing this chronic disease a chance at life.
The AMOR Foundation provides treatments such as hemodialysis, surgeries and kidney transplants at no cost to patients. In addition, it provides comprehensive support to families, trying to ensure that patients maintain their quality of life while receiving treatment.
“Every day, we face the reality that many patients cannot afford the treatment they need to survive. Through this initiative and with the support of BAC, we want to reach those who need it the most, so that they have access to treatments that can save their lives,” said Annelisa Castillo, Founder of the AMOR Foundation.
In Guatemala, the main risk factors for kidney failure are uncontrolled diabetes and hypertension, which account for two-thirds of cases. This disease affects both older and younger adults, and in many cases, patients must be cared for throughout their lives, as kidney failure is a disease for which there is no cure, except in cases where a transplant is possible.
