The four priority areas and eleven political working groups were presented at the press conference. It is about a new major social democratic project which is based on how Sweden looks today and how we create a new community for the 2030s. For Sweden to become more like Sweden. The influence of Swedish social democracy has gradually weakened over decades – this requires self-examination, according to party leader Magdalena Andersson.
– The clearest example of that is that since 2006 we have had a right-wing majority in Sweden’s Riksdag. By the 2026 election, we will have had it for 20 years. It calls for self-examination, and I regard the coming term as a decisive opportunity to seriously deal with this, says Magdalena Andersson.
Global trends such as digitization, climate change, globalization, large migration flows, the intertwining of the world’s economies and the erosion of the nation-state’s political boundaries have changed the living conditions in Sweden and in the world. It is felt economically as the gaps have increased throughout the Western world, but faster in Sweden than in almost all comparable countries. It is noticeable demographically as the country had Europe’s fastest urbanisation. Extensive migration has not been met with sufficient measures and has created strong segregation. It can also be seen politically, where increasing marketing has been carried out in virtually all sectors of society. The common has receded and it is no longer obvious that the public can be trusted to deliver on citizens’ reasonable expectations.
Now the party chooses the way forward to create a new social community. It is about the meeting between people and how we organize our society. The Swedish healthcare must be for everyone regardless of the thickness of their wallet, the working model must be based on duty and right, everyone must be equal before the sections of the law book and that our authorities must be staffed with high integrity. It is also about Sweden’s culture and values and that our country should be imbued with a feeling that right should be right. In Sweden, we don’t rush ahead – neither in the checkout line nor at the healthcare system.
Against this background, S will now take on a new project for a new inclusive community – regardless of sexual orientation, ethnic origin, age or gender. Where all children can succeed and where we see in that community that we all win by sticking together.
– I want us to bring the best of the old into the new. What made Sweden a unique country in the world. Community and belonging. Respect between people, says Magdalena Andersson.
Andersson also notes that there are clearly things to be left on the dustbin of history – such as homophobia and racism, old technology and emissions, poverty and segregation. Basically, it is about Sweden becoming more like Sweden. Built on justice, respect and shared responsibility.

An updated social analysis
The first part of this project is to thoroughly update the Social Democrats’ social analysis, clarify problem formulations and present political solutions. The goal is to enable other types of political solutions than there is room for today. It is an analysis in which we want to involve researchers, civil society, trade unions, local football coaches and everyone else who wants a Sweden built on justice, respect and shared responsibility.
