The long-awaited “Parents of Pastende Elementary School” association has started its activities in Pastende Elementary School, whose goals are focused on public benefit activities in various aspects. One of them is improvement of the interior and territory of the school through various projects and attracting donations.
The principal of Pastende elementary school, Lelde Hodjačika, says that all information about the association and the statutes of the association itself can be found on the school’s website.
“These days, such support societies are very popular. The important thing is that through such a non-governmental organization, you can apply for various projects to improve both the school’s material base and environment, as well as the landscaped area. It is a good support for the school in organizing its social and daily life. There are many opportunities where you can apply for projects, but only non-governmental organizations can do it, so we took this opportunity to establish an association. We have been thinking and talking about it for many years, but finally it is done. We lacked people who could lead the association and get actively involved, but last spring the parents of a 1st grade student showed such an initiative, so the association is registered and already functioning. The chairperson of the board is Singrita Bērziņa. Some parents have experience in organizing projects, and there are parents who will help with accounting. Nothing will happen immediately, it’s all a process, but we are glad that we can already start something,” explains the principal of Pastende elementary school. She mentions that the plan, for example, is to create a so-called outdoor classroom, which would be a place where classes could be held outdoors during the warm period. The association has already participated in one project, but there was a lot of competition.
“It is understandable that if you do not participate anywhere, there is no possibility to develop something. And we first of all want to arrange or improve the physical environment. At the moment, the financial situation in Talsi region is quite tight, but the school is preparing for its 165th anniversary in the fall, so it will be possible to donate funds through the association to organize this event. In this sense, the association is a great helper,” said Lelde Hodjačika, inviting those interested to become members of the association “Pastende Primary School Parents”.
