Last night, a call was received in Riga, where household goods on an area of 40 square meters were on fire in an apartment on the third floor of a nine-story residential building. At the scene, firefighters rescued two people using rescue masks. One person was injured in the incident. During the extinguishing work, a dead person and a cat were found.
Ten people were evacuated from the building before the arrival of VUGD, and another ten people were evacuated by firefighters.
On Friday evening, VUGD also received a call to Lielupes Street in Riga, where household goods on an area of five square meters were on fire in an apartment on the fifth floor of a five-story residential building. Firefighters rescued two people who were injured in the fire from the apartment. Another person was rescued from the apartment next door.
Also, on Friday evening, the rescuers rushed to the Iecavas parish of the Bauska region, where three barns with an area of 84 square meters were on fire. One person was given to medics.
On Friday evening, a call was also received to Dārza Street in Varakļani, where unattended food had burned on the stove in the first floor apartment of a two-story residential building. Before the arrival of VUGD, five people evacuated from the building. The fire was noticed in time by the neighbors who called the fire brigade. The firemen did not hear the warning signal of the smoke detector, so it was given to the owner of the apartment.
In the past 24 hours, VUGD received 54 calls – 18 for firefighting, 23 for rescue operations, and 13 calls were false.
