On Tuesday morning, an accident involving a fish transport truck disrupted traffic at the entrance to the Vasco da Gama Bridge, in the South-North direction. The incident happened at around 11 am, when the vehicle collided with the central divider of the bridge, resulting in the partial closure of the roads.
According to the Civil Defense, as a result of the consequences of the accident the two central and left lanes were blocked in both directions, South-North and North-South, which caused significant traffic delays. Despite the impact of the accident on traffic on the roads, however, the authorities confirm that there were no reports of injuries.
The truck, which was carrying fish according to Correio da Manhã, collided violently against the central divider, but the load did not spill on the road, according to information provided by the authorities at the scene. Emergency teams, including Civil Defense and GNR agents, were quickly dispatched to the scene, in order to restore normalcy as quickly as possible.
So far, the authorities have not provided any official reason for the accident. However, central lane closures and subsequent congestion are causing long queues, particularly in the South-North direction, and forcing drivers onto side roads.
