The secretary said that a three-member committee has been formed to investigate the complaint against former IGP Benjir Ahmed. They will investigate the complaints and submit the report to the commission.

The members of the committee are – Hafizul Islam, Deputy Director of the Commission, Niamul Hasan Ghazi and Zainal Abedin, Assistant Director.

The secretary said that a report of acquisition of illegal wealth was published against the former IGP on March 31. On April 1 and 2, such news was circulated in the electronic media. The ACC is aware of the said group of complaints. Taking these complaints into account, proceedings were initiated against him under ACC Rules 2007 and 3.

He said, in accordance with the provisions of Section 15 of the ACC Act-2004, taking into account the complaint, the complaint against Benazir was approved for investigation in the meeting of the commission on April 18. He also said that legal action will be taken in this matter by completing the investigation within the stipulated time as per the relevant laws and regulations.

Member of Parliament Barrister Syed Syedul Haque Sumon applied to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to investigate the corruption allegations against former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed published in newspapers a day ago. He also said that if the ACC did not initiate an inquiry, he would approach the High Court.

He submitted this application at the ACC office in Segunbagicha on Sunday (21 April).

In the application made to the ACC Chairman, Sumon said that Benazir Ahmed retired after 34 years on October 30, 2022. After retirement, Benazir Ahmed has accumulated a lot of wealth in the name of his wife and daughter during his service. Which is significantly disproportionate to his reported income.

In the petition, he said the assets of Benazir and his wife and daughter are significantly higher than their legitimate income. There is sufficient reason to believe that Benazir has disproportionately acquired the said property by abusing his position.

In the petition, he requested investigation and legal action regarding the illegal assets of Benazir Ahmed, his wife Zishan Mirza, daughters Farhin Rishta Binte Benazir and Tahsin Raisa Binte Benazir.

Suman’s application created a commotion all over the country. A day after this, on Monday, the Anti-Corruption Commission announced the decision to investigate former IGP Benazir Ahmed.
