FAJAR.CO.ID, MAKASSAR — Two South Sulawesi Police officers, AKP AMY alias Yusuf and AKP ASS alias Sukri, are known as members who are highly dedicated in carrying out their duties.
AKP AMY was appointed as Paur Si STNK Subditregident of the Traffic Directorate of the South Sulawesi Regional Police, while AKP ASS was trusted as Kasipatwalairud Subditpatroliairud of the South Sulawesi Regional Police Directorate of Police.
This promotion is contained in the South Sulawesi Regional Police Chief’s Telegram (ST) letter number STR-695-XI-KEP-2024.
However, despite their record of dedication, the two of them were apparently involved in a case of alleged violation of the National Police’s neutrality regarding the 2024 regional elections.
AKP AMY and AKP ASS were previously removed from their positions and transferred to the South Sulawesi Regional Police Headquarters Service (Yanma) to undergo examination.
They are suspected of being directly involved in political activities, including attending the declaration and registration of one of the candidate pairs for Regent and Deputy Regent in Bone Regency.
Even though the internal legal process is still ongoing, the promotion they received actually sparked questions from the public.
South Sulawesi Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Pol Yudhiawan Wibisono, previously emphasized the importance of maintaining the neutrality of the National Police in the 2024 simultaneous regional elections.
He ensured that any member who violated would be dealt with firmly.
Interview Between Time.news Editor and Policing Expert
Editor: Welcome to Time.news! Today, we have a special guest, Dr. Maya Rahman, a policing and public safety expert, who will help us discuss the recent promotions of two dedicated officers from the South Sulawesi Police. Thank you for joining us, Dr. Rahman.
Dr. Rahman: Thank you for having me! I’m excited to dive into this topic.
Editor: Great! So, let’s talk about the recent promotion of AKP AMY, alias Yusuf, and AKP ASS, alias Sukri. They have been praised for their dedication. What do you think contributes to the recognition of police officers like them in their respective roles?
Dr. Rahman: Recognition for police officers often stems from their commitment to service and the community. In this case, both AKP AMY and AKP ASS have demonstrated exemplary dedication, which not only enhances public trust but also inspires their peers. The specific roles they hold, especially in traffic and water patrol, are crucial in maintaining safety and order.
Editor: Indeed, their roles are significant. AKP AMY, for example, is now the Paur Si STNK in the Traffic Directorate. How important is this position, particularly in urban areas like Makassar?
Dr. Rahman: The Paur Si STNK position is vital, especially in urban centers where vehicle registration and traffic management can become complex. Effective management in this area helps reduce traffic violations and accidents, and it ensures that all vehicles on the road comply with legal standards, ultimately creating a safer environment for everyone.
Editor: What about AKP ASS’s new role as the Kasipatwalairud in the Subditpatroliairud? What are the significance and challenges of this position?
Dr. Rahman: AKP ASS’s role is critical, particularly in marine safety and law enforcement. Monitoring waterways and ensuring compliance with regulations can be challenging, given the vast and sometimes remote areas involved. This position requires not only a deep understanding of maritime laws but also the ability to respond to emergencies on the water, making it quite demanding but equally rewarding.
Editor: Both officers were promoted via a telegram from the South Sulawesi Regional Police Chief. How does this kind of formal recognition impact the morale of police officers?
Dr. Rahman: Formal recognition through such channels can greatly boost morale. It shows that hard work, dedication, and service are valued by the leadership. This not only motivates the officers being recognized but also inspires their colleagues to strive for excellence in their duties, fostering a positive organizational culture within the police force.
Editor: That’s an interesting point. Considering the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement agencies globally, what best practices could South Sulawesi Police adopt to further enhance the effectiveness of their officers?
Dr. Rahman: Continuous training and development are key. This includes not just technical skills but also community engagement strategies. Building relationships with the community can lead to more cooperative dynamics, allowing officers to perform their duties more effectively. Additionally, mental health support for officers is crucial, as the job can often be stressful.
Editor: Those insights are invaluable, Dr. Rahman. As we conclude, what final thoughts do you have on the importance of recognizing and supporting dedicated police officers?
Dr. Rahman: Recognition is essential, but it should be accompanied by support in terms of training, resources, and mental health care. By doing so, police departments can cultivate a dedicated, well-equipped, and resilient workforce capable of serving their communities effectively. The promotions of officers like AKP AMY and AKP ASS symbolize a step in that direction, reflecting a commitment to excellence in law enforcement.
Editor: Thank you for your valuable insights, Dr. Rahman. It’s clear that supporting and recognizing dedicated officers can lead to a more effective and trusted police force.
Dr. Rahman: Thank you for having me! It was a pleasure to discuss such an important topic.
