Actions and elections | Opinion

This Tuesday there were elections in Laluenga. Elections without electoral campaign, without propaganda; only memory, pondering and decision-making, because there was not just one, as in the elections to which we are accustomed, but five decisions that had to be made.

It was about choosing, from among all the residents, the five people who will form a candidacy to present in the next municipal elections. You did not vote between the candidates but the candidates.

If emotions intervene in any decision-making to guide and support reasons and motives, emotions play the main role in these: it is the feeling and not the thought that drives and pushesbecause voters know the people they want to vote for well, they relate to them, they know how they live and how they treat others, they have seen them act. They have been elections without speeches, without promises, only with actions, and while electoral speeches and promises tend to be lies, actions tend to be true.

Political parties will spend large amounts of money this year on marketing to persuade us, to manipulate our reasons and emotions and with them our vote. They will inundate us with posters, speeches, advertisements, messages that we will be aware of and others that only the unconscious will know about. And with so much claim we will need shortcuts to decide: continuation or change, the opinion of those close to us or what was recorded in our unconscious and not precisely during the electoral campaign.

Because perhaps consciousness arrives late, when the unconscious has already made the decision. Maybe freedom is just an illusion, there is no such thing as free will and choices are a game played by our consciences to make us believe that we are free and so the world can continue to function, lest we find out that we don’t have freedom and stop taking responsibility morality of our actions. After all, these are the ones that generate feelings and these are the ones that move the unconscious. Better believe that we are free.
