In partnership with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), UNDP and the African Union, this event brings together young leaders from all 54 countries on the African continent to discuss the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of Africa.
The Forum addresses the shortcomings of the current framework of the multilateral system and proposes an alternative mechanism to respond to the aspirations of citizens, restore trust and create a just society where every life counts, underlined the UPJ.
Aiming to galvanize the participation of African youth during the next United Nations Future Summit, this forum succeeded in mobilizing youth representatives from the 54 member states of the PUJ to articulate their perspectives, priorities and solutions. to address global challenges and inform the recommendations of the United Nations Future Summit, it is added.
It also includes a review of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals discussed at the 10th African Regional Forum for Sustainable Development (ARFSD) and the corresponding objectives of Agenda 2063, with particular emphasis on its second ten-year implementation plan. implemented (STYIP).
The opening session was attended by Felipe Paullier, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Youth Affairs, Matthias Naab, Director-UNDP Regional Service Center for Africa, Ahunna Eziakonwa, Under-Secretary-General and Director of the UNDP Africa Office, Daniel Adugna, Head of the Youth Division – African Union Commission and Claver Gatete, Executive Secretary of the UNECA.
As a reminder, the Pan-African Youth Union, headquartered in Rabat, Morocco, is the continental organization involved in supervising the national youth councils of the 54 countries on the continent. Since 1962, it has brought the voice and concerns of African youth to the biggest forums in the world in order to make them heard and provide appropriate solutions.
