DECRYPTION – Will the future of the planet come from this long-marginated continent? This is the debate launched by the Ghanaian-Scottish Lesley Lokko, curator of this 18th edition placed under the sign of resilience.

Can the future come from Africa, this continent so rich for its architectural intelligence? For too long, it has been ignored, even underestimated, by the great manifestations of architecture.

In Venice, the 18e biennale puts it back in its rightful place, in glory, under the plural vision of 89 architects, designers, professors, thinkers or artists, half of whom come from this geographical area or from the diaspora. “For non-obtaining visas, many were unable to come and share this great moment of brotherhood, which is regrettable”insisted Commissioner Lesley Lokko.

We have a lot to learn from this immense territory and its incredible resilience. “laboratory of the future”, title chosen by the latter for its biennial. From her Ghanaian origins, the 59-year-old Scotswoman, a luminous fighter carrying many memories and claims within her, is best able to explain how Africa can bring food for thought to the problems…
