New Delhi: The troubles of Indian spice companies MDH and Everest are going to increase further. Recently, Singapore and Hong Kong had banned these companies alleging high levels of pesticides in their spices. According to a news from Reuters, America’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is collecting information about the products of these companies. An FDA spokesperson said the agency is aware of the reports and is gathering additional information. MDH and Everest spices are in great demand not only in India but also in Europe, Asia and North America. The government is also checking the quality standards of these companies. Recently, Hong Kong and Singapore had banned the sale of many spices from MDH and Everest in their country. It is alleged that the quantity of pesticide ethylene oxide in these products was very high. It is considered harmful to health and there is a risk of cancer. MDH and Everest did not immediately respond to queries. Everest says that its spices do not cause any harm to health. However, the Spices Board of India has come into action. This board works under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of the Central Government. The board said on Wednesday that consignments sent to Singapore and Hong Kong will be subject to mandatory testing.
