The president of Club Atlético Talleres, Andrés Fassi, He was suspended for two years from exercising his position at the head of the Córdoba institutionflagship of the attempt by President Javier Milei and his ally Mauricio Macri to incorporate Public Limited Companies into Argentine football. Fassi was suspended for two complaints before the AFA Disciplinary Court: for threats against referee Andrés Merlos and for trying to suspend the AFA assembly with a complaint before the General Inspection of Justice.

The sanction was issued this afternoon by the AFA Disciplinary Court, which also imposed a six-month suspension on vice president Gustavo Gatti and a reprimand on the institution.

The first complaint against Fassi was for the threats that, according to referee Merlos, occurred after Talleres’ elimination in the Argentine Cup against Boca Juniors. The president of the Córdoba club went to the locker room to protest a series of rulings that, according to him, harmed his team, and he even reported that the judge had beaten him. But when Merlos presented his defense, the story that emerged was another, very different. “What happened is regrettable, sad and painful. There is no explanation for what Fassi does, he has incredible impunity. Two people entered my locker room with firearms; they just needed to pull the trigger,” denounced the referee.

The articles that the Disciplinary Court used to prepare the ruling against Fassi were 32 and 33 of the Regulation of Transgressions and Penalties, but, fundamentally, 248 and 253. “Who attacks, attempts to attack, injures, aggravates, offends, insults, threatens or commits any other immoral or reprehensible act, within the internal premises of the stadium; inside or outside the stadium or the field of play; from behind the fence that surrounds the field of play or from the stands or stands, to a referee or referee; assistant, sports assistant, player or technical staff”, dictates article 248; and provides sentences from one week to eight years.

Meanwhile, article 253 leaves the scope of the suspension for a leader: “The suspension imposed on a club leader implies the disqualification from working in the AFA or in clubs directly or indirectly affiliated to it” and adds: “The leader Thus sanctioned, he will not be able, under any concept, title or character, with regard to the different activities of the club linked to football, to represent, attend meetings of its Board of Directors or other meetings in which related topics are discussed.

An ally of Milei

The sanction against Fassi is also against the main bishop of the Casa Rosada for insisting on his crusade to transfer the Argentine soccer clubs to Public Limited Companies. Milei and his Minister of Deregulation, Federico Sturzenegger, imposed it in the still current DNU 70/2023; and, based on these regulations, the Government repeatedly threatened to force the AFA, chaired by Claudio “Chiqui” Tapia, or the clubs associated with the Argentine soccer entity to modify their statutes. to enable the entry of private capital fromin a total or mixed manner, with a shareholding model that guarantees the majority shareholding in the hands of the partners.

Tapia and the clubs associated with the AFA rejected this modification repeatedly and also obtained favorable rulings from the Judiciary. The last ruling was known on September 3, when the Federal Justice of Mercedes resolved in favor of the Argentine Football Association a precautionary measure that ratifies its previous rulings and puts a stop to the crusade of La Rosada and his ally Mauricio Macri.

The judicial decision suspended the effects of the SAD Regulations that the Government published on August 14, ignoring the ruling of that court that had left articles 335 and 345 of DNU 70/2023 without effect.
