In a post made on social media this Thursday, 7th, the Attorney General of the Republic, Augusto Arasshot at the Operation Lava Jato: “In the last 4 years we have faced a strong corporatism supported by fake news disseminated by the diverted press that confused Justice with revenge. I was accused of destroying Lava Jato, when I only institutionalized and depersonalized the Public Ministry. Today, society sees its true cursed legacy, its ‘modus operandi’ that takes lives, politics, the economy and affronts national sovereignty”. The statement came one day after the minister toffoli daysdo STF (Supreme Federal Court), annul the evidence obtained by Lava Jato in a leniency agreement with the construction company Odebrecht. Toffoli even said that the president’s arrest Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) can be classified as “one of the biggest miscarriages of justice in the country’s history”. Aras ends his second term at the head of the PGR on September 26 and has been trying to get closer to Lula in an attempt to be reappointed to the post.
Toffoli’s decision does not annul all processes in which there is evidence against the contractor. However, the responsible judges will need to re-evaluate each case and whether or not there was any type of suspicious conduct. “We have a duty to comply with the Constitution, torn up by a few and noisy members of the Justice system,” said Aras.
