In a statement to the press following his meetings with the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Mohamed Sadiki, the Cape Verdean minister indicated that this meeting highlighted the emphasis on the means of developing “very concrete and pragmatic” cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the areas of fishing, aquaculture, irrigation and the adaptation of agricultural systems.

Mr. Silva, who is participating in the work of the 33rd session of the Regional Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), also underlined that a visit by Moroccan experts is scheduled soon to Cape Verde, followed by the signing of a protocol aimed at further strengthening the partnership between the two countries, with the aim of consolidating ties and promoting an exchange of knowledge and good practices.

Organized under the aegis of the Kingdom of Morocco, this three-day conference offers a major opportunity for African countries to discuss practical and concrete solutions for food security and improving agricultural production, and to define priorities with the FAO for the next two years, with the aim of achieving transformative and sustainable change in agri-food systems across the continent.

The conference, which is held under the theme “Resilient agri-food systems and inclusive rural transformation”, is an opportunity for all stakeholders to share best practices, explore new partnerships, discuss opportunities, and provide regional guidance on the transformation of agri-food systems in Africa.
