Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch held, Monday in Rabat, bilateral talks with Wolfgang Sobotka, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Austria, who is on a working visit to Morocco, accompanied by an important delegation that includes, in particular, the President of the Parliamentary Friendship Group Austria-North Africa.
During this meeting, the two sides touched on the positive dynamic of the historical friendship and cooperation relations between the Kingdom and the Republic of Austria during the recent period, as the two countries marked the 240th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between them.
The two sides also discussed the results of the official visit that the Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer made to the Kingdom, at the end of last February, at the head of an important delegation of officials and businessmen, which was marked by the convening of the Moroccan-Austrian economic forum, which opens up promising prospects for economic partnership between the two countries.
In this context, the Head of Government noted, during this meeting, the positive position of the Republic of Austria on the national issue, which was confirmed on the occasion of the visit of the Austrian Chancellor to the Kingdom, as the Republic of Austria considers that the autonomy proposal submitted by Morocco in 2007 constitutes a basis for resolving the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara. The Kingdom’s efforts in this regard are considered serious and credible.
The head of government said that the visit of the President of the Austrian National Council to Morocco consecrates the historical character of bilateral relations and enhances the positive process of Moroccan-Austrian cooperation in its political, economic, cultural and other dimensions.
On the other hand, the two sides discussed the contribution of the partnership between the legislative institutions of the two countries to enriching and expanding the horizons of Moroccan-Austrian friendship and cooperation.
