Kovalam (Thiruvananthapuram): Kovalam Grade SI Shaji, who was suspended for allegedly dumping liquor on a foreign national’s road after being inspected on New Year’s, has been reinstated. It is learned that he will be shifted to Poonthura station.

Shaji, who was part of the probe team, was suspended on the instructions of the DGP following a controversy over the blocking of a foreign national who went on a scooter with liquor bought from Bavco on the 31st. The Chief Minister sought an explanation from the DGP as the incident had embarrassed the tourism sector. He had said that there would be a departmental inquiry against three policemen, including the SI.

At the same time, Grade SI Shaji complained to the Chief Minister and the DGP that he was only enforcing the law. The complaint, filed by the Police Office Association, stated that the foreign national was not a tourist and had been living in Kovalam for more than four years.
