Alexis Lebrun has just qualified for the singles final of the European Championships after a clear victory against Truls Moregard, seeded number 2.
What a feat! The Frenchman Alexis Lebrun, 19th in the world, qualified on Sunday for the singles final of the European table tennis championships, after beating the Swedish vice Olympic champion Truls Moregard by four sets to zero in Linz.
Winner 12-10/11-5/11-5/11-6 against the number 2 seed, he will play a final in the evening against the German Benedikt Duda, who the day before had eliminated his little brother Félix in the quarterfinals.
Eliminated two years ago in the round of 16, again by a Swede, Kristian Karlsson, in his first European Championship in Monaco, Alexis Lebrun, 21 years old, will however obtain a better result in Austria.
He also has the opportunity to become the third French European singles champion, eight years after Emmanuel Lebesson in Budapest, and almost 50 after Jacques Secutin in Prague (1976). Simon Gauzy, beaten by Lebesson in 2016, collected silver.
Alexis Lebrun, seeded No. 7, can also aspire to the doubles title, together with his brother Félix, 18 years old (7th in the world), who will still have to face Truls Moregard and the Swede Anton Kallberg.
