Alitalia, chaos on tickets and MilleMiglia: not valid with the new company

by time news

In the meeting on Alitalia held between the vice president of the European Commission Margrethe Vestager, the Minister of Economic Development Giancarlo Giorgetti and the Minister of Economy Daniele Franco an agreement has been reached on what the Italian plan will have to contain to allow the European Commission to detect the economic discontinuity between Alitalia and Ita. But now Italy will have to provide the documents that put in writing the agreement reached, according to what the sources in Brussels reported by AGI report. Among the novelties, according to what is learned from local sources, i tickets issued by Alitalia and the loyalty program MilleMiglia they will not be valid for the Ita company. The passage of the tickets issued, the source argues, would determine the economic continuity between the old and the new company, with all the ensuing responsibilities regarding the EU procedure still in progress on the bridging loans received by the flag operator. Hence the need to protect consumers in a different way than simply converting an Alitalia ticket into a boarding pass for an Ita flight. It seems more likely therefore a financial compensation in favor of those who have already purchased an Alitalia ticket for the period in which the old company may no longer be able to operate. The requirement of economic discontinuity is reflected on the customer base also with reference to the MilleMiglia loyalty program which cannot be transferred to the new company. Here the perspectives they do more uncertain regarding a possible auctioning of the program. But even following this last path, Ita could not participate in the tender, the source specifies.
