All castes are not barred from becoming priests.. Supreme Court verdict in Subramanian Swamy case

by time news
The Supreme Court refused to grant an interim stay to the Tamil Nadu government’s order to make priests of all castes. The Supreme Court, hearing the case filed by senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, ordered the Tamil Nadu government to respond and adjourned the hearing.

The DMK government issued an order in 2006 to make priests of all castes. Accordingly, the Tamil Nadu government appointed 28 people, including 4 people from Scheduled Tribes, as priests in August last year. Meanwhile, senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy had filed a case in the Supreme Court seeking a ban on the plan to make priests of all castes in temples controlled by the Tamil Nadu government. As its hearing was held today, the Supreme Court said that it cannot impose an interim stay on the decision of the Tamil Nadu government.

Also, the Supreme Court has adjourned the case after sending a notice to the Tamil Nadu government to reply to Subramani’s Swami petition. The court has announced that this petition will be heard along with the pending cases related to the appointment of priests.
