That’s it. Guinea now has a vision for the development of the promotion of health and safety at work. On the occasion of the launch of the work of the technical and tripartite workshop on the draft text establishing the attribution, organization and operation of occupational health services held this Tuesday, October 22, 2024 in Conakry, the Minister of Labor and Civil Service, announced that the national occupational health and safety policy is approved by all members of the government.
It was in the presence of the WHO representative, those of the partners, employers and trade union organizations.
After thanking the participants in this meeting, the minister made a point of mentioning: “I wanted to be present at the opening of this meeting for various reasons. The first reason testifies to my satisfaction with the support expressed at the highest level of the State for the inclusion of the problem of workers’ health and safety in the workplace among the priority actions of the transitional government. . This is illustrated by congress facts. As you know, about two weeks ago, we presented the national occupational health and safety policy to the government council. And unanimously, all members of the government approved this policy. So the government approved the national policy. Which means that Guinea now has a vision for the development of the promotion of health and safety at work,” he said.
Continuing, he will make it known that it is now up to the actors not only to work for its popularization, but also for the implementation of the priority action plan which will translate the concrete implementation of this vision on the ground in order to make effective this problem on a daily basis in different companies. Whether in the private sector, the mixed sector but also the public sector. As you know, before in ministerial departments and other public services, there were few services which had services or even focal points in charge of the issue of health and safety at work. Thanks to the efforts of the national service, the focal points have been identified. Today, I can confirm to you that in all ministerial departments, we have focal points. There are even departments that have formally created and implemented services. These focal points and those responsible for these services have been largely equipped and trained,” said Minister Bourouno, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, the Director of the national occupational health service, Alhousseine Yansané will announce that the development of a text governing the practice of occupational health, worker safety has been included as the one of the priorities for strengthening the protection of workers’ health.
As for the representatives of the partners (WHO, employers and unions), they in turn expressed their gratitude to Minister Bourouno and his executives for the good quality of the work which is being carried out within the framework of the health and safety at work in Guinea. They also reassured that their support will not be lacking to achieve the expected results very quickly.
