During the night from Monday to Tuesday, about 1,000 cubic meters of loose rock came to the north of Altdorf. The rock slid down the ‍slope, taking several ​trees with it.⁢ The safety net that was installed was able to prevent anything worse from happening ⁣in the Gisler family ⁢home.

The Gisler couple where very happy with‍ the help they received after the rock fall on⁢ Monday‍ night. around 11 pm, a rock came loose behind the house and‍ thundered into ⁣the depths. the⁣ Gislers woke‍ up, but could not see what​ had happened.

Devastation in ⁤Altdorf was not visible until ⁣the ‍next day

It was only the next day that the extent of the ⁢destruction could⁣ be assessed.​ “On Tuesday, tradesmen from five companies⁣ came to help us clean up the destruction,”⁣ says Kari‍ Gisler. According‍ to Gisler, he just picked up ​the phone and then ‍help ⁢came instantly. “This was great and they deserve a big thank you,” he tells 20 Minutes.

Along‍ with the ⁤craftsmen,​ the Gislers⁤ received support from geologists, the canton and the authorities.‌ “It was really nice to⁤ see that so many people‍ wanted

A house has stood on this spot for 120 years. “I grew up here and this is the first rock fall here,”‍ says the former craftsman. He rebuilt his parents’ house, but he didn’t expect that.

Kari Gisler has ⁢rebuilt ‌his parents’⁤ house. As a plasterer and bricklayer, he has the necessary knowledge.

“Most of the ‍rock went⁣ down near the house, but ​a piece of rock bounced off the tree and flew into our house,” explains ⁢Kari Gisler in ​the basement of his house. Here a piece of rock peeks out from‌ the ceiling. “It’s good that I installed the⁤ reinforcing‍ bars⁣ here,” says the‍ former joiner and⁢ plasterer.

Editor: Good‌ afternoon, Kari. thank you for joining‌ us today, especially after⁣ such a harrowing⁢ experience.​ Can you‌ start by telling us what happened on that fateful night in Altdorf?

Kari Gisler: ‍ Good afternoon!​ Yes, its been ‍quite an eventful time. On⁣ Monday night, around 11 pm, we were⁢ suddenly woken up by a loud‍ noise. it ⁤felt like thunder. We didn’t see⁤ what happened right away,⁢ but we soon learned that a massive rock, weighing about 1,000⁣ cubic meters,​ had⁤ come loose from⁣ the slope behind our house.

Editor: That sounds⁤ terrifying! Thankfully, no ‌one was⁤ injured. How did ⁤you and your family manage to cope with the immediate aftermath?

Kari Gisler: We were indeed lucky. While the rock caused important damage to our home, the safety⁣ net installed earlier did its job⁤ of ⁤preventing a⁣ worse disaster. The next day, we saw the extent of the destruction, which‍ was quite⁤ overwhelming.

Editor: It’s amazing to hear that the ​safety measures worked! You​ mentioned earlier that⁣ you received an⁢ overwhelming response ⁢from the ⁤community. Can you tell us more about that support?

Kari⁣ Gisler: Absolutely! on Tuesday, ⁢the local community really ⁢came together. Craftsmen from five different companies showed up to help clean ‌up the destruction. I really just had to pick up the ‍phone, ⁤and help arrived instantly. It ‌was​ truly heartwarming to⁤ see so many people willing to lend a hand.We just can’t thank them enough.

Editor: That ‌solidarity must⁢ have been a huge relief for you and your family. What were some of the challenges you⁤ faced⁤ during the cleanup?

Kari Gisler: One of the biggest challenges was assessing the ‍damage and figuring out what needed to ⁣be done frist. Some family heirlooms were damaged, and we had to deal with the emotional impact ⁤of ‌seeing our ‍home in such disarray. ⁢But with the ‍community’s help,we managed to navigate through it.

Editor: It’s often said that a crisis brings out the best and ‍the worst in people. ‍How did this experience shape ⁢your view of your community?

Kari Gisler: This experience⁣ has ⁤shown me the unbelievable ​strength and kindness of our community. It made me appreciate the bonds ‌we share and the support networks​ we have. seeing so ‌many people step ⁣up in our time of need was a ⁣reminder that we are never alone,even⁣ during tough times.
