AMD Surges in CPU Market Share, Challenging Intel’s Dominance in 2025

AMD is rapidly gaining ground on its primary competitor, Intel, across all major CPU markets. New data indicates significant increases in both unit and revenue share for the company, driven by the success of its latest Ryzen processors.

AMD announced Wednesday that it has achieved substantial gains in desktop, mobile, and server markets, fueled by strong customer adoption of its innovative CPU technology. According to figures from Mercury Research, AMD’s desktop unit market share jumped approximately 10 percentage points year-over-year, reaching 36.4% in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Desktop Dominance: Ryzen 9000 Series Leads the Charge

The gains in the desktop market are largely attributed to the performance of the Ryzen 9000 and 9000X3D desktop processors. These processors have demonstrably outperformed Intel’s offerings, attracting a growing customer base. Desktop revenue share also saw a substantial increase, climbing from 28.0% to 42.6% in the same period.

“These meaningful share gains across every major compute segment underscore strong execution and customer confidence in AMD’s leadership products across the data center and client businesses,” a company representative stated.

Mobile Gains and the Rise of Ryzen AI

While gains in the mobile sector were less dramatic than in the desktop space, AMD still saw a notable increase in market share, rising from 23.8% to 26.0%. This growth pushes AMD past the traditional 80-20 market split historically held by Intel. The launch of the Ryzen AI 300 notebook processor has been a key factor, consistently outperforming competitors in CPU benchmarks.

Server Market Reaches Record Highs

Perhaps the most significant development is AMD’s performance in the server market. The company achieved a record 41.3% revenue share, with unit share growing from 25.7% to 28.8%. This represents a major competitive shift, signaling a growing preference for AMD’s server solutions.

One analyst noted that the company’s consistent increases in market share year-over-year demonstrate a clear trend of growing customer confidence.

Mercury Research founder and president Dean McCarron indicated that a more detailed report, including final official figures, will be released on Thursday. The continued success of AMD’s Ryzen processors positions the company as a formidable force in the CPU market, challenging Intel’s long-held dominance and reshaping the competitive landscape.
