An armed robbery and masked robbery of a bank in the Reichenau district of Innsbruck late Friday morning. The unknown man demanded cash from the employees and then fled south, police said. Alarm search failed. He ended up not getting caught.

An employee gave the offender the cash he demanded. According to the police, this involved foreign currency – US dollars, British pounds and Swiss francs – in an unknown amount. No one was injured. The search for the suspect also extended to the Innsbruck area.

The man, who was armed with a pistol and spoke German, was described as a stocky person, around 25 to 35 years old and around 170 to 180 cm tall. He wore a black peaked cap, trousers, jacket and a black face mask. He also wore black shoes with white soles and had a dark brown bag with light brown straps.

Already the eighth bank robbery in Tyrol

In Tyrol, and especially in Innsbruck, there have already been eight bank robberies within a year. Several criminals have now been arrested. According to the public prosecutor’s office, a duo arrested at the beginning of July after a bank robbery in Innsbruck was also suspected of being responsible for two other robberies in March and April of bank branches in the state capital. The State Criminal Police Office (LKA) also investigated links to attacks in Kufstein in January of this year and in November of the previous year.

At the end of August, a 42-year-old Slovak was arrested after an armed bank robbery in Mieders in the Stubaital (Innsbruck-Land area). A few days earlier, a 68-year-old Austrian was arrested after an armed robbery at a branch in the Reichenau district of Innsbruck in July. Meanwhile, a criminal was still on the run after a raid on a penniless institution in Innsbruck at the beginning of September. (APA)
