(Web Desk) Crossing an important milestone in the construction of Mohmand Dam, the direction of the Swat River was changed, a 1800 meter long tunnel was constructed while the work on another tunnel for flood management is in progress.

According to Project Director and General Manager WAPDA Asim Rauf Khan, Chief Engineer Faseehullah, the river Swat has been diverted on the under-construction Mohmand Dam project, 35 percent of Mohmand Dam and 98 percent of tunnel construction work has been completed.

The completion of the project is expected to produce 800 megawatts of electricity annually. Mohmand Dam is scheduled to be completed in 2027. Upon completion of the project, 1.29 million acre feet of water will be stored, flood prevention will be possible, 800 megawatts of cheap electricity will be generated and Peshawar city 300 million gallons of drinking water per day will also be provided.

Mohmand Dam is the fifth highest dam in the world and the highest dam in Pakistan. The artificial lake created by the construction of this dam can store 13 lakh million acre feet of water. will be built, but with its help, Charsadda and Nowshera districts will also be saved from being affected by floods, with the construction of the dam, 16000 acres of land will become arable and also 460 cusecs of drinking water will be provided to the residents of Peshawar city. It will be provided, the annual benefits from Mohmand Dam have been estimated at 51 billion 60 crores.

Only 87 families were affected in the construction of Mohmand Dam, ninety-nine percent of the area i.e. 8688 hectares has been acquired.
